Edward "Ed" Charles Rardin

Edward “Ed” Charles Rardin, age 71, of Topeka, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

He was born the son of the late William W. and Mary E. (Welch) Rardin on June 17, 1953, in Topeka, KS. Ed graduated from Topeka West High School.

Ed started working for Blue Cross & Blue Shield in their Information Technology Department on October 17, 1977. His career spanned over 38 years, and he retired on August 28, 2015. Earlier in his career, Ed took computer programming classes at Washburn University.

He was a faithful and devoted member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Ed would attend and help with Mass daily as well as help as a Sacristan, maintain church facilities and security. His pride and joy was acting like a father figure to his nieces and nephews. In his spare time, Ed was an avid sports fan, watching football, basketball, and baseball. He also coached basketball and football. He enjoyed watching crime shows and his reading his bible.

Survivors include his brother, Joseph (Susan) Rardin of Flower Mound, TX; his five sisters, Mary Rardin, OSB of Atchison, Cathy Colpitts of Topeka, Margaret “Peggy” Brown of Louisville, TX, Jane Gallion of Topeka, and Anne E. Ireland of Prairie Village, KS. Other survivors include numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Ed will lie in state from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Thursday, January 9, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with a rosary prayed at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Friday, January 10, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS 66603.
