Eldon James Handley

Eldon J. Handley, age 80, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS.

He was born the son of James W. and Blondina E. (Caton) Handley on August 19, 1944, in King City, MO.

Eldon served with compassion and worked as a Paraprofessional for Head Start and USD 501 for many years. Volunteering at the Library and for the Christmas Bureau brought Eldon the greatest joy. In his downtime, he enjoyed painting and cheering on his Kansas City Chiefs.

He leaves behind his niece, Lynn Herrera (Gil), nephew, Kevin Hobson (Julie), and nephew, Brian Glasgow (Joanne). Other survivors include his brother-in-law, Bob Glasgow, and Eldon’s special companion, his dog, Chipper.

Eldon is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nelda Glasgow; and niece, Pamela “Pam” Smith.

Visitation with viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 10-11:00 A.M., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Eldon will be laid to rest next to his parents at the King City Cemetery in King City, MO, at 3:00 P.M., on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions can be made in Eldon’s memory to Interim Healthcare. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
