Elsie R. Becker

Elsie R. Becker, 94, of Topeka, passed away Monday, November 27, 2023, at Brewster Place in Topeka.

She was born January 23, 1929, in Baileyville, Kansas, the daughter of Andrew and Helena (Buessing) Broxterman.

Elsie was a loving wife and mother with many talents that she developed and learned on her own.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, decorating wedding cakes, crocheting, reupholstering, and refinishing furniture.  She and her husband Edward worked side by side, overcoming many challenges of operating a 640-acre farm.  They later moved to Topeka.  Through the years Elsie was a manager at Montgomery Wards, Alco, and Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) clothing store.  She was always willing to help friends and relatives with any task they asked her.

In addition to being a loving mother and wife, she was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Topeka.

She is survived by two sons, Lloyd (Marty) Becker of Topeka, and Terry (Patricia) Becker of Prior Lake, Minnesota; five grandsons; 9 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Sr. Anna Marie of Concordia, Kansas, Mary (Linus) Holthaus of Centralia, Kansas, Kay Mitchell of Frankfort, Kansas; brothers, Charley of Frankfort, Kansas, Bill (Audrey) of Vermillion, Kansas, and Pat (Joyce) of Baileyville, Kansas, Richard (Sharon) of Sabetha, Kansas.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Edward; eight infant children; sister, Sally Scott; and brothers, Bud, Bob, Ralph, and Tom.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30pm, Thursday, November 30, at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am, Friday, December 1, at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church.  Interment will take place at 1:45pm in Saint Patricks Cemetery “Coal Creek”, in Centralia, Kansas.
