Elvira Ruiz Saldaña, 80, of Topeka, passed away on February 14, 2023, at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
She was born in Mexico City, Mexico on April 19, 1942, the daughter of Aurelio Ruiz and Maria Socorro Saldaña.
Elvira worked in several different capacities but was most proud of being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching her Spanish soap operas, garage selling, going to the casino and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. Elvira was known as “LaTia” to the Mexican Community where she was an active volunteer. She was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Elvira Alvarez Torres (Hector Emanuelli), Veronica Torres (Daniel), Fernando Alvarez Ruiz (Cynthia), Eva Alvarado Cuevas, Tammy Barajas (Jose), 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was one of nine children and has six surviving siblings; Antonio Ruiz (Linda), Agustin Ruiz (Luisa), Aurelio Ruiz Jr. (Socorro), Maria Vega (Rogelio), Alfredo Ruiz, and Maria Socorro Ruiz. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Armando Ruiz and Alejandro Ruiz.
Elvira will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 22th, after 2:00 p.m. where her family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
