Eva Cheryl Ramirez

March 13, 1950 — July 20, 2022

Eva Cheryl Ramirez, age 72, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Midland Hospice House.

She was born the daughter of John and Natividad “Nettie” (del Hierro) Serna on March 13, 1950.

She attended and graduated from Topeka High School in 1968. On May 24, 1969, Eva married Jesus G. Ramirez at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. They shared 53 years of marriage.

Eva was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was active in the Altar Society, assisting and cooking for the Fiesta Mexicana and was a longtime advocate and treasurer for the Topeka LULAC Senior Center. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, ceramics, playing various card games and cooking. Eva, Jesus and the family loved to take family vacations and making memories at each special location. Her pet cats and dogs always held a special place in her heart, and she considered them family. Eva entered the workforce after high school and then took a break to raise her family. She returned to the workforce and retired as a supervisor for a book publishing company in Topeka. Spending time with her family, being dedicated to her faith and being active with LULAC brought Eva the greatest joy.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Jesus G. Ramirez; three sons, Jesse Ramirez and his wife Eulalia, Troy Ramirez, and Brian Ramirez; as well as 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, and she had a special bond with her niece, Michele Perez. Other survivors include her two sisters, Celestine Garcia and her husband Diego, Josephine Arrendondo and her husband Daniel; as well as a loving extended family that included many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rose Marie Ramirez and a brother, Daniel Serna.

She will lie in state after 2:00 P.M., on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, with the family being present from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., and a parish rosary at 6:00 P.M., all at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.

Memorial contributions can be made in Eva's memory to the Topeka LULAC Senior Center, 1502 NE Seward Ave., Topeka, KS 66616. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
