Frances I. “Dollie” Burton Petr, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away at The Legends on January 25, 2023.
Dollie was born on June 20, 1922, in Emmett, Kansas the daughter of Thomas V. “Tim” Kennedy and Lillian Seitz Kennedy. She attended Emmett schools, after graduation from High School in 1940 she moved with her family to Topeka where she went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. Later she transferred to Chicago where she met Leo E. Burton. They were married February 10, 1943, in Orlando, Florida. The couple lived in Florida, Pennsylvania and later settled in Topeka after World War II. Her husband of 30 years preceded her in death in 1973.
Their marriage gave them two sons, Rick Burton (Carolyn) of Topeka, Kevin Burton (Nancy) of Ozawkie and a daughter Jolene Berry (Dan deceased) of Lake Wales, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jana Mastin (Jay), Brett Burton (Katie deceased), Corey Berry (Kara), Jenni Jo Coffman (John), Tony Herl (Laura), Rachel Moran (Cody), Jared Burton and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Thomas and wife Ruth Kennedy and a sister Kathryn “Peachie” and husband Edward Domme.
In 1977 she married Winzer J. “Jim” Petr who preceded her in death in 1979.
Dollie retired after 25 years with the State of Kansas, of which 23 years were with the State Board of Agriculture where she was the office manager for the Division of Meat Inspection. After retirement she was active with the Westport Square Homeowner’s Association and was Treasurer for 12 years.
All her children and grandchildren were always important to Dollie. She was involved in their lives and activities, especially all their sporting events. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, as well as a friend to all.
Visitation will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 after 9:00 a.m. with a rosary prayed at 10:30, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow the mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.
Memorial contributions in her memory are suggested to Christ the King Catholic Church or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and may be sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS. 66603.
