Fred Joseph Geisen

Fred Geisen passed away peacefully in the presence of family on September 5, 2021 in Holton, Kansas.  He was born Frederick Joseph Kroll in Leavenworth, Kansas on February 27, 1922.  He was later adopted by his paternal aunt and her husband, George and Rose (Kroll) Geisen, shortly after his mother passed away from childbirth complications.  Fred was raised as an only child, unaware of his adoption until his early twenties. 

Fred graduated in 1940 from Capital Catholic High School (now Hayden HS) where he first met his future wife, Nadine Wilson.  They married in 1943 and raised a family in Topeka, Kansas.  Nadine preceded him in death after nearly 49 years of marriage.  He later met his companion of 28 years, Dorothy Hall, who also preceded him in death last year.  His daughter, Sue Mulroy, of Mayetta, Kansas passed away earlier this year.  

He worked for the Kaiser-Frazer and Hudson dealerships, both of which went out of business.  He joked that no other car manufacturer would want him since he was two for two on defunct automakers.  He managed Ike’s Motor Service for many years, finally retiring from Otis Lane.  After retirement Fred enjoyed helping his grandsons working on the farm. 

Fred always kept active and loved the outdoors.  He liked to hunt, fish, and had a special way with animals. He also enjoyed family gatherings and was great at playing card games.  He was a joker and always had a story.  He delighted in asking people where they were from and then cross examining them regarding history of the area. He was particularly proud of his German heritage. 

Survivors include daughters Mary Headley (Charles) San Antonio, Texas; Lynn George (Neal) Lawrence, KS; and son, Jon Geisen (Ronda) Mayetta, KS.  Fred was blessed with nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, with one more on the way. 

In view of COVID no visitation is planned, and a private family graveside ceremony will be held.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made instead to the Hayden High School Alumni Association, St. Croix Hospice or a charity of choice.   

The family wishes to thank Lexington Independent Living in Topeka for helping their father to remain independent for as long as possible.  Thank you also to St. Croix Hospice, and The Pines in Holton, Kansas for all their kind and compassionate care.
