Freida Marie (Kiefer) Schriner, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Midland Care Hospice House after a short battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1934, in St. Joseph, MO to Marjorie and Leslie Kiefer. Freida graduated from the Convent High School in St. Joseph, MO, in 1952, then St. Joseph School of Nursing. After marrying Warren Schriner on Kansas Day, January 29, 1955, they settled in Topeka, KS and raised three sons.
Until her retirement in 1990, Freida had a successful career in Nursing working in many capacities throughout Topeka. Her many positions included the VA Hospital, local pediatricians, as a Home Health Care provider for the Shawnee County Health Department, and as Discharge Planning Nurse for Stormont Vail.
Freida and Warren moved to a cottage on the Brewster Place campus 17 years ago where they flourished in all that Brewster Place had to offer. She enjoyed gardening, being a librarian at the Brewster Place Library and her greatest passion was quilting. She was a member of several Quilters Guilds throughout the region, Brewster Place Quilters Guild, Kansas Capital Quilters Guild, Country Quilters Guild in Topeka and the Kaw Valley Quilters Guild in Lawrence. Her quilts were truly works of art earning her several awards. They will be cherished by her family for years to come.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother George Kiefer of Kansas City, MO; sister, Marjorie Calvert of Lubbock, TX and son, Michael Schriner. She is survived by her husband Warren; sons Ken Schriner (Kay) of Tucson, AZ and Dan Schriner (Sally) of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren Marc Neufeld (Ashton) of Moore, OK, Nathan Schriner (Sara) of Olathe, KS, Alexandra Sneegas (Jason) of Lenexa, KS, Byron Schriner (Elisha) of Topeka, KS and Cortney Schriner of Topeka, KS; great-grandchildren, Finley and Emry Neufeld, Robyn Schriner, Olive and Charlie Sneegas, Sylas and Elizabeth Schriner, and Jaxson Moody.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church, 1114 SW 10th Ave., on Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 A.M., with a lunch immediately following at the Church Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Midland Care Hospice House or Mater Dei Catholic Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.
