Gail DeAnn Alderson of Topeka passed away at the Midland Care Hospice House on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. She was 71.
Daughter of Wayne E. Cox and Lois M. (Gaines) Cox, Gail was born on October 28, 1953. She was a lifelong Topekan and graduated from Seaman High School in 1971.
Gail was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and was on the board at LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center.
She was a devoted public servant for the State of Kansas for 49 years. She worked in various roles at numerous agencies but spent the most significant amount of time with the State Architects Office, and then the Kansas Corporation Commission.
She had a talent for cooking, enjoyed vacations in Estes Park and Maui, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Gail was thoughtful, creative, and kind. Hosting dinners, table decorating, and her beautiful handwriting are among some of the things that made her special. Gail made everyone else feel special, too.
Gail was a sports fan and could often be found watching the University of Kansas basketball and football, the Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Family and friends were the most important to her. She cherished time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and many friends and loved ones.
She married Alan Alderson on December 15, 1979, in Topeka. He survives at the home.
Other survivors include three daughters: Tracy Marie Alderson of Norfolk, VA, Tosha Webster (Adam Ross) of Topeka, and Melanie DeAnn Alderson of Topeka; brother, Stephen A. Cox (Meredith) of Topeka; sisters, Susan L. Schneider (Curt) of Coffeyville, KS, and Cheri Glover of Topeka; grandchildren, Dylan Ross and Myles Ross of Topeka, Max Alderson of Norfolk, VA, and CJ Epps of Topeka.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dennis W. Cox.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm, on Monday, March 17, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, March 18, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
