Genevieve W. Ennis

Genevieve W. Ennis, age 92, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Plaza West Healthcare & Rehab Center.

She was born the daughter of Prosper and Marth (Glotzbach) Wanstrath on June 3, 1928.

Genevieve was a 1946 graduate from Topeka High School. On February 25, 1949, she married James O. Ennis. James passed away on January 18, 2008 after 58 years of marriage.

She had worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years as a Data Corrections Clerk and retired in June of 1989. Genevieve was of the Catholic faith and longtime member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In her younger years, she was active with the Girl Scouts and was a member of the Old Timers Club with the Santa Fe. Her greatest joy was traveling to see her grandchildren and vacationing at South Padre Island. Her grandchildren will also cherish their time with “Grandma Grover.”

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Etzel of Topeka; five grandchildren, John Etzel, Michael Etzel, Sarah Etzel, Elizabeth Etzel-Turner and Matthew Etzel; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Robert, Jacob, Ronald, Emily, Nathan, Dylan and Peyton.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James O. Ennis; two daughters, Margie Ann Ennis on February 25, 1976 and Mary Elizabeth Ennis on July 15, 1952; three sisters, Doris Devlin, Florine Sanders and Mitzi Birdsell.

She will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday, April 19, 2021 from 2-8:00 P.M. with family being present from 5-8:00 P.M. A parish rosary will be at 6:30 P.M. Mask will be required at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 20, at 10:00 A.M. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
