George F. Williams, 85, of Topeka, KS died Saturday, November 7, 2020 in the comfort of his home with his loving family at his bedside.
He was born March 17, 1935 in Topeka the son of Orion and Mary Margaret (Evans) Williams. George lived most of his life in Hoyt where he was a 1952 high school graduate. He served 6 years in the Naval Reserve with an Honorable discharge. George attended Saint Benedicts College in Atchison and received a BSA from Barstow Community College in California. He worked at AT & SF Railroad retiring after 38 years of service.
George was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Barstow, CA where he served as past Grand Knight. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #04254 and James W. Gibbons Assembly of The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus where he served as past Color Guard Commander. He was also a member of the Man 2 Man Cancer support group at St. Francis Hospital and was a past Scout Leader of Troop #40.
George was an avid hunter, he enjoyed hunting quail, pheasant, deer and turkey passing his knowledge and passion on to his son and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching and rooting on the KC Chiefs and the K-State Wildcats but his greatest love was attending his grandchildren’s school activities.
George married Patricia Myrick on April 16, 1955 at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his three children, Belinda (Robert) Breight of Louisburg, KS, George Patrick (Dinah) Williams of Mohave Valley, AZ, Theresa (Brett) Broughton of Topeka along with seven grandchildren, Adrian (Tina) Williams, Brooke (Dallas) Ramsey, Christopher Williams, Haleigh (Josh) Salyer, Stephanie Williams, Stacie (Drew) Fitzpatrick, Kristina (Levi) Wahquahboshkuk and eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt Ramsey, Ethan Ramsey, Noah Ramsey, Cambridge Fitzpatrick, Corie Fitzpatrick, Colton Fitzpatrick, Mackenzie Salyer, Melanie Salyer. Several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orion and Mary Margaret Williams, three siblings, Mary Creason, Orion “Bud” Williams and Grace Rohr.
George will lie in state after 2:00 PM Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where his family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM with the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary and Chalice Ceremony beginning at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at the Hoyt Cemetery,
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in George’s memory to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
