Gerald Emmett Smith, Sr.

Gerald Emmett Smith, Sr., 82, of Auburn, KS, died Friday, November 19, 2021, at his home. He was born June 15, 1939, in Topeka, KS the son of Earl and Bessie (White) Smith. Twelve days after his 17th birthday he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served during the Korean War. Gerald enjoyed woodworking and selling the many crafts he made. He is survived by four children, Susan Snider, Gerald Smith, Jr., June Connolly, Danny Smith along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Ruby Glotzbach and Veronica Groves also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, William Smith, Dorothy Reaser, Robert Smith, Carol Igleheart, Linda Weathers and longtime companion, Jane Amos. Per Gerald’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home followed by burial of his urn with military honors at the Scranton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
