Gonzalo "Gus" Ortiz

Gonzalo “Gus” Ortiz, age 85, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at a Topeka hospital.

Gus was born the son of Jose and Graciana (Llamas) Ortiz on November 8, 1936, in Topeka, KS.

He retired after working for 40 years with the Topeka State Hospital in the maintenance department. Gus enjoyed fishing, tennis, horseshoes, sailing, music, dancing, and spending time with family.  

Survivors include two sons, Michael Ortiz and his wife Susan, Ken Waller and his wife JoAnn; two daughters, Anita Pope, Leslie Pagan and her husband Davis; brother, Bennie Ortiz; three sisters, Monica Rodriguez, Natalie Rodriguez and Isabel Validivia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Joe, Pete, Richard, Cenon, Lolo and Raymond Ortiz; and one sister, Emilia Florez.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.

He will be laid to rest next to his parents at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
