James E. Flory, Jr.

James E. Flory, Jr., 92, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at his home.

He was born on November 22, 1930, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of James E. Flory, Sr. and Grace A. Flory.

James grew up in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School. He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War.

He retired in 1986 from the Federal Aviation Administration with 35 years of government service.

James married Barbara Jeanne Gellings on June 28, 1958, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage. Barbara passed away on July 14, 2023, less than 2 weeks before James.

Survivors include three children, James (Jennifer) Flory III, Todd (Nancy) Flory, and Sheila Flory; two grandchildren, Harry Flory and Ryan Flory; and a brother, John (Mary Jean) Flory, Sr.

James was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Virginia Schrenk, Louise Johnson, Helen Swaim, and Grace Flory.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for a memorial visitation at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30pm.
