James Joseph Jokerst, 92, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away November 14, 2018 at the Midland Hospice House. James was born on May 23, 1926 in Waco, Nebraska. Son of Charles and Magdelena Schilly Jokerst. James graduated from high school in York, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army, where he was stationed at the Panama Canal. He worked for Minneapolis Moline and Gehl Manufacturing Company for over thirty years.
James married the love of his life Irene Messiaen on August 25, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska at St. Mary Catholic Church. Together they had three children.
He was a member St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina, Kansas for over forty years.
James is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and seven sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years Irene Jokerst, his three children, Kathy (John) Ellison of Topeka, Mike Jokerst of Topeka, and Judy Dipman of Topeka; four grandchildren, Corey Dipman of Quinter, Kansas, Shawna Camargo of Topeka, Amber Dipman of Topeka, and Brenna North of Topeka; and five great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
