Janis Marie Ingalsbe, age 80, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in Topeka.
She was born the daughter of Bart and Edna Mae (Samuelson) Caffrey on January 22, 1942, in Topeka. She is a graduate of Hayden High School.
Janis married Thomas W. Ingalsbe, Jr., on July 13, 1963, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Thomas passed away on May 31, 2004, after sharing over 40 years of marriage.
Janis was an excellent homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In her spare time, she enjoyed embroidery, sewing, taking walks, camping with Thomas and watching Kansas State sports. Janis never worked outside of the home, devoting her life to her family and babysitting several children throughout the years. Later in life, she babysat some of those children’s kids. In her younger years, she and Tom loved to camp and took many vacations with Dean and Todd to Colorado. After Tom’s retirement, they became camp hosts at Tuttle Creek State Park River Pond for many years and always looked forward to their sons bringing their families to camp and visit. The granddaughters loved roasting marshmallows and seeing the campsite all decked out in K-State items. Visits to Grandma Jan’s house always included reading “The Popcorn” book, eating “the best roast!”, and so many homemade Christmas goodies during the holidays. Jan continued to volunteer her time with Friends of Tuttle Creek State Park up until her death. This past June in recognition of her lifetime membership a bench was placed in her honor near Tom’s Treehouse playground and the swing set that was recently donated by her. Jan also loved taking trips to Branson and taking bus trips with the Active Prime Timers of Topeka.
Survivors include her son, Dean Ingalsbe and his wife Judy of Valley Center, KS; daughter-in-law, Kelly Ingalsbe of Manhattan, KS; five granddaughters, Katie (James) Simmons, Tera (Brent) Arnberger, Deanna, Jasmine and Desiree Ingalsbe; and four great-grandchildren, Kendall and Harper Simmons, Braxton and Bo Arnberger. Other survivors include a loving extended family of many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Todd Ingalsbe (09/29/2011).
She will lie in state from 4:00-8:00 P.M., on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, with a rosary at 5:00 P.M., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., on Thursday, January 26, at Christ the King Catholic Church.
