Jeannine Ramona Smith, 95, of Topeka, Kansas, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at Lexington Park in Topeka, with family by her side.
Jeannine was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Clay Center, Kansas, the daughter of George Newton and Delta Pearl (Darner) Isaac.
She graduated from Marysville High School in 1948.
After graduating, she worked as an operator at the telephone company. Later she was a housewife and worked at Brewster Place where she retired in 1991.
On Sept. 13, 1952, she married Gerald Patrick Smith at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville, Kansas. They made their home in Topeka after short stops in Columbus, Ohio, and Denver, Colorado.
Jeannine was a dedicated member of the Phi Tau Omega philanthropic sorority. She also volunteered for many years, doing activities for the church.
She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling, listening to audio books, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jeannine was loved by many and will be missed. Jeannine will be remembered for her special home-cooked Sunday dinners and all the Christmas holidays with family at their longtime house on Cheyenne Road that Gerald built.
Survivors include one daughter, Pam (Frank) Fussenegger, of Littleton, Colorado; two sons, Gary (Martha) Smith, of Topeka, and Greg (Kathy) Smith, of Topeka; daughter-in-law Cindy Smith, of Leyland, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Angie Fussenegger, Haitham Alsawadi, Jason Fussenegger, Eric (Carly) Smith, Hayden Smith, and Paul (Maureen) Smith; eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerald Smith; son Mark Smith; sister Donna Breeding; and granddaughter Hannah Smith.
Jeannine will lie in state from 5-8:00 P.M., on Thursday, August 8, 2024, with a rosary at 6:00 P.M., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, August 9, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Christ the King Catholic Church or any organization in her name. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
