Jerilynn Rust, age 82, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at The Healthcare Resort of Topeka.
She was born the daughter of Kenneth and Ruth (Shriver) Johansen on August 1, 1942, in Falls City, NE. On February 16, 1962, Jerilynn married Cliff D. Rust in Topeka, KS. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage.
Jerilynn was a fun, loving, caring and nurturing individual. Her family always came first, and she thoroughly enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Her specialties included her cooking and always having desserts to share. In her down time, Jerilynn would root for her KU Jayhawks and KC Royals as well as enjoying card games and board games. She held a special bond with her grandchildren, and she was able to homeschool her granddaughter. Special times were spent in Branson and celebrating birthdays all month long with free desserts at every restaurant that would offer it!
Her faith led Jerilynn to lead a faithful and honest life as well as her family. She was a Charter Member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene where she led Sunday school, Youth Groups and as the church Treasurer for many years. Her caring nature allowed her to volunteer at the Rescue Mission, focusing on the Women’s Center. Her most recent job was working alongside her husband, as the appointment scheduler for South City Barbers. Although we are saddened by Jerilynn’s passing, we take comfort that she is celebrating in the arms of the Lord.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Cliff D. Rust; daughter, Melody Bruner; daughter, Melissa Weaverling and her husband Kurt; grandson, Josh Bruner; granddaughter, Savanah Weaverling and her fiancé, Brandon McPhail. Other survivors include her three brothers, Mike Johansen (Linda), Jeff Johansen, Ken Johansen (Lorraine); three sisters, Cathy Fankhauser (Darrel), Faith Lambeth (Paul), and Charity DeJonge (Mur).
Jerilynn is preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Amanda Olinger; sister, Cindy Garland; son-in-law, Richard Bruner. She was greeted by those that have gone before her as well as her beloved grand dog, Branson Bruner, who shared the same birthday as Jerilynn.
The family held a private family graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jerilynn will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, 3501 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66614.
