José Borjon, 91, of Topeka, KS died Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Aldersgate Village.
He was born the youngest of ten on October 9, 1929 in Topeka the son of Marcos and Estefana (Barrios) Borjon.
José ‘s interests included gardening, playing softball, coaching basketball, rooting on the Kansas State Wildcats and the Las Vegas Raiders. He played the Bass and was a longtime band member, playing for the Chito and the Lataniers along with the Washburn Symphony and at the church. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and worked as a Boilermaker at BNSF for over 42 years.
José is survived by his wife of 73 years, Lydia (Pimentel) Borjon. Other survivors include a daughter Felizitia Mertel and her husband, Jim; a son, Andre Borjon; a daughter-in-law, Frances (Guerrero) Borjon, wife of a deceased son, Renaldo Borjon, and a sister, Jesse Borjon. Three grandchildren, Jesse Ybarra, Chris Ybarra and Lydia Borjon, four great-grandchildren, Oscar Ybarra, Elijah Ybarra, Isabella Ybarra, Anthony Ybarra and a great-great-grandson, Ryder Ybarra also survive.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 9:30 A.M. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 A.M. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
