Joseph L. Frederick, age 82, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at the Kelly House of Topeka.
He was born the son of Joseph S. and Marie Helen (Hladky) Frederick on August 11, 1941, in Topeka, KS.
Joseph served his country in the United States Army. He started working for Allis-Chalmers for several years and retired as a machinist for Adams Business Forms. Never one to sit still, Joseph would mow lawns and work side projects after working his day job. On August 3, 1968, Joseph married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Ruhkamp, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, KS. She passed away on April 19, 2012, after 43 years of marriage.
He was a long-time member at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church. Joseph enjoyed watching his beloved KU Jayhawks, KC Royals, and KC Chiefs. He was a handyman, carpenter, and always willing to lend a hand to his family and friends. Above all, Joseph’s greatest joy was time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his three beloved daughters, Ann (Dennis) Hendrix, Amy (Gerald) Terrill, and Becky Wright; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Amie) Hendrix, Kelly (Jacob Arnold) Terrill, Julia Wright, Kayla Terrill, Gracie Wright, Joseph Noriega, and Keri Terrill; seven great-grandchildren, Destiny Hendrix, McKenzie Hendrix, twins, Amelia and Oriah Hayes-Hendrix, Evan Hayes, Xavior Hayes, and Ivy Arnold. Other survivors include a sister, Iona Frederick, and a brother-in-law, George Hamon.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; twin granddaughters, Katlyn and Kristina Terrill; brother, Donnie Frederick and a sister, Marie Hamon.
He will lie in state on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 9-10:00 A.M., followed by a parish rosary at 10:00 A.M., at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
Memorial contributions can be made in Joseph’s memory to Mater Dei Parish. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
