Joseph V. Steinbock

Joseph V. “Joe” Steinbock, 87, of Topeka passed away at his home on January 12, 2023.

He was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 17, 1935, the son of Casper and Barbara (Herr) Steinbock.

Joe worked as a Carmen for the AT&SF Railway Company for over 40 years.  He also owned and operated Steinbock Chimney Sweep for over 40 years.

He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where he was involved in adoration for over 25 years and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4254 at the church.  His faith and his family were very important in his life.

Joe was an avid K-State football and basketball fan and he and his wife had season tickets for many years.  He had a love of history and enjoyed watching the History Channel.  He and his wife enjoyed traveling, and especially spending time with their grandchildren. 

Joe married Anne Cowan at the Church of the Assumption on May 9, 1959.  She survives.  He is also survived by a son Jay Michael Steinbock, a daughter Joely Ann Murray and husband Rich, and nine grandchildren; Alex (Jordan) Steinbock, Hannah Steinbock, Libby Steinbock (Isaac Hong), Emily Steinbock, Matthew Steinbock, Andrew Steinbock, Bella Murray, William Steinbock and Jack Murray, a daughter-in-law Julie Steinbock and a brother Dick Steinbock and his wife Carolyn.  He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey Alan Steinbock, and seven siblings, Robert Steinbock, Marcella Steinbock, Marie Price, Ruth Ann Jones, Lucille Becker, Vincent Steinbock and Leonard Steinbock.

Joe will lie in state at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Friday, January 20th, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. where his family will receive friends.  A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church or masses may be made in his memory and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
