Topeka

Kathryn “Kathy” J. Habiger, age 68, of Topeka, KS, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Stoneybrook Rehab in Manhattan, KS.

She was born the daughter of Anthony Edward and Elizabeth Joan (Williams) Habiger on August 11, 1956, in Ottawa, KS. She was baptized and raised in the Baptist faith. After graduating from Highland Park High School in 1974, Kathy then attended and graduated from Joseph Continental Cosmetology School. Her love of being a hairdresser spanned 37 years at salons in Topeka. She then changed careers and graduated and received a degree from Bryan Career College. Kathy worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Contact Representative in Topeka and retired after 16 years of employment.

Throughout the years, Kathy became an avid quilter. She used to take quilting bus trips with her mother and daughter, Heather. Two special trips were taken Paducah, Kentucky visiting various quilt shops and Carthage, MO, to visit the Precious Moments Chapel as well as the quilt shops. She was a prior member of the Kansas Capital Quilters Guild. She loved sunflowers and the Wizard of Oz. Kathy was a true KC Royals and KC Chiefs fan. Although she was a super fan, getting to see her granddaughters play volleyball, softball and other school activities brought her the greatest joy. Along with Kathy’s love of animals, especially her dogs through the years, Monkey, Coco, Gracie and Annie.

Survivors include her beloved daughter, Heather (Brian) Woodworth; two sisters, Rebecca (Merle) Newland, Sandra (Orville) Myers; one brother, Anthony F. (Suzanne) Habiger. Other survivors include her cherished granddaughters, Jaiden Marie, Miah Isabella, and Eva Jo; nephew, Ryan (Lindsee), Kylea and Kaden; nieces, Cassandra (Chris), Josh, Katelyn and Jonah, Carrisa (Chris), Hunter and Ryder, Christina (Tony), Luke, Melony and Carter, Dusty (Jake), Birdie-Mae and Kimberly (Robert).
