Kenneth D. Wilkes, 77, of Topeka, KS died Thursday, December 16, 2021, in the comfort of his own home.
He was born December 22, 1943, in Topeka the son of Kenneth Wolf and Geneva Arnold, he was adopted by Forrest R. Wilkes.
Kenneth attended Topeka schools and graduated from Wentworth Military Academy. His work history included working for the Topeka Police Department in the late 60’s early 70’s, Buttercrust Bakery, Pizza Hut, Essex Wire and Dollar General Store in Topeka and two bakeries in St. Louis. He loved to sing Karaoke, God Bless the USA and anything by Frank Sinatra where amongst his favorites.
He married Phyllis Brown on February 14, 1995. She survives. Other survivors include his three children, Kimberly (Charles) Ragan, K. David (companion, Erin) Wilkes, Joseph (Nicole) Wilkes, all of Texas. Four stepsons, Joshua Gentry, Paul Gumpher, both of Topeka, LeRoy Gumpher, III of Jacksonville, FL, Steven (Kim) Gumpher, Sr of Pennsylvania. Nine grandchildren, Aubrey, Frances, Riley, Jade, Lindsey, Brandon, Natalie, Katherine, Steven, JR., three great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Laura Wilkes also survive.
The family will receive friends and welcome sharing of memories from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2021, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or Midland Care Hospice sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
