Mr. Lauren DeBuhr, age 81, of Topeka, KS, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
He was born the son of the late Lavere and Marion (Kostalek) DeBuhr on September 9, 1942, in Milwaukee, WI.
After graduating from high school in Milwaukee, Lauren made his way to Sterling, KS, to attend Sterling College. While at Sterling College, Lauren met Melody McFarland. They married on August 18, 1964, in Sterling and together shared 59 years of marriage. He received his bachelor’s degree and continued his education at Emporia State University where he received his master’s degree.
Lauren was a longtime educator and counselor in middle school education. His kind and helpful nature helped him succeed while teaching his students. In his spare time, Lauren enjoyed photography, cheering for K-State, KC Royals and the Milwaukee Brewers. He was active with his church and loved to travel with his family and help on mission trips.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Melody; son, Eric DeBuhr and his wife Dana; daughter, Wendy Katsbulas and her husband Steve; brother, Tom DeBuhr. Other survivors include his five grandchildren, Samantha Sacks (William), Kaylie LeFils (Joseph Waller), Ryler DeBuhr (Rebekah), Arden DeBuhr, Brogan DeBuhr; as well as eight great-grandchildren, Noah, Jonah, Heloise, Cassi, Eldo, William, Linus, and Patrick.
Burial will take place at Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, KS.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cornerstone Community Church, 7620 SW 21st St., Topeka, KS 66615, on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 2:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions can be made in Lauren's memory to Cornerstone Community Church. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
