Lee Valdez, 100, of Topeka, KS, died February 3, 2022, in the comfort of his home. He was born January 11, 1922, in Trinidad, CO, the son of Jose and Felicita “Lucero” Valdez. Lee served as a guard patrolman, in the US Army Air Corp during WWII and worked as a Mule driver and worked in food service for the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Administration Hospital retiring in 1977. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. In Lee’s spare time he enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, camping and trips to Colorado to visit family. He married Mary R. Guerrero on April 9, 1946, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1998. Other survivors include 6 children, three sons, Dan Valdez, Larry (Charlotte) Valdez, Lee Valdez Jr, Three Daughters, Eleanor Valdez, Sarah (Frank) Ruiz, JoAnn (Richard) Toledo. A brother Victor Valdez. Lee was preceded was in death by his parents, Jose and Felicita Valdez, Two brothers Fred and Raymond and three sisters, Rosie, Susie and Sarah, a daughter Irene Ruiz, grandson Raphael Ruiz, great grandson Chase Valdez. He had 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Valdez will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
