Margaret “Maggie” M. Breen, age 81, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Midland Hospice House.
She was born the daughter of James J. and Mary E. (Cote) Breen on August 28, 1941, in Concordia, KS. Maggie received her early education in Concordia and finished her high school education at Clay Center High School.
Maggie worked for Southwestern Bell and after 32 years, she retired as Supervisor. She then worked 10 years for the Kansas Legislature.
Maggie was a long-time member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was a woman devoted to her Catholic faith and attended Mass daily, adoration chapel, ministered to those in prison and was an active participant with her women’s group, “Roots,” for 20 plus years. She was also a foster parent and held a close relationship with her foster children.
Survivors include her one brother, Jim Breen and his wife Sheila; sisters, Jane Rea and her husband Mike, Pat Hoover and her husband John. Other survivors include her foster children, Tatyana Thomas and Tae Darcy as well as many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and friends. Maggie loved all her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Phyllis Winter, Dolores Sherbert, Christine Breen and one brother, Robert “Bob” Breen.
Maggie will lie in state on Monday, July, 3, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., followed by a parish rosary at 10:00 A.M., at Christ the King Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., at the church. A graveside service will take place at 2:30 P.M., at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Clay Center, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Maggie’s loving memory to Midland Hospice Care and/or Big Lakes Developmental Center, 302 Lincoln Ave., Clay Center, KS 67432. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
