Margery Marie Purcell, 102, of Topeka, died December 14, 2023, just 6 weeks shy of her 103rd birthday.
She was born on January 30, 1921, in Shields, KS. to Clara (Wecker) and William Davidson. Her family later moved to Emporia, KS. where she attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Emporia High School. Margery spent two years studying to be a kindergarten teacher at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia before deciding that was not the job for her.
She moved to Topeka and began a long career at the Kansas State Department of Revenue where she worked until she retired.
Margery was on a blind date when she met Lloyd Purcell, who was not her date but was part of the group she was with. They were married on December 31, 1945, two months after Lloyd returned from serving overseas in World War II, and enjoyed 68 years together before his passing in 2014.
Margery and Lloyd loved traveling and took many wonderful trips. They also loved hosting big family dinners on Easter. Margery had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and loved being the center of attention, proudly wearing a tiara and sash when she celebrated her hundredth birthday. She was much loved by her nieces and nephews.
Margery was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd; her brother Bill Davidson; her younger twin sisters Maurine Stone and Maxine Booker; her nieces Joyce Daughaday and Sylvia Stone; and nephews David Stone and Greg Booker. She is survived by nieces Laura Tiffany, Melanie Nolker, Judy Hoye and Ginny Booker; nephews Bob Stone, Milton Brock and Darrell Brock; her 104-year-old cousin, Lorene Louk; as well as many great- and great-grand-nieces and nephews.
