Maria G. Chavez

Maria G. Chavez, 101, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Excel Nursing and Rehab in Topeka.

She was born December 15, 1922, in Topeka, to Refugio Garcia and Maria Secundina (Juarez) Garcia. 

Maria was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was involved with the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. She was a dedicated and loving mother and homemaker. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, gardening, and playing bingo.

She married Louis V. Chavez, on July 8, 1979, in Topeka. He died January 30, 1996.

Survivors include a son, Peter G. Gallego of Topeka; daughters, Catalina L. Galvan and husband Artemio of Topeka, Eleanor Adame of Topeka, Ernestina Adame of Topeka; brother, Frank Garcia of Topeka; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carmen Garcia; and brothers, John Garcia, Rufino Garcia, and Florentino Garcia.

The family will receive friends at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church from 8:30am to 9:30am, Tuesday, July 30, with a parish rosary prayed at 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am.

Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
