Maria Urista

Maria C. Urista, 74, of Topeka, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on May 27, 2020.

She was born in Durango, Mexico on December 8, 1945 the daughter of Francisco Alvarez and Juana Vasquez.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and caring for her family.  Maria was also passionate about horses and going to the casino.

Maria was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

She married Leoncio Urista in Durango, Mexico on July 13, 1963.  He survives.  She is also survived by her children; Hipolito Urista (Vicenta Arroyo), Blanca Urista (Jose Vargas), Rosa Urista (Alberto Jazzo), Genaro Urista (Heather Mack), Dora Urista (Crespin Gonzalez), Isaac Urista and Marisol Urista, 26 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and two brothers, Felix Alvarez Vasquez (M.A. Carmen Hernandez) and Pedro Alvarez Vasquez (Bertha Hernandez).  She was predeceased by a son, Leoncio Urista Jr. in 1999.

Maria will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where a Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited in Spanish at 6:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
