Mark Alan Edwards, 69, of Topeka, Kansas (Formerly of Benkelman, Nebraska) died on April 28, 2022, due to complications from a stroke.
He was born on December 15, 1952, the son of Marvin and Irvaleta (Adkinson) Edwards in Benkelman, Nebraska.
He lived in several different towns in Nebraska as a child and graduated from Tekamah High School. He attended college at McCook Community College and later the University of Nebraska, Lincoln campus. He earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Southwestern University in Wichita, Kansas.
He worked construction work in his early years in Dallas, TX. Later he became a funeral director and embalmer and worked for the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home for many years and at funeral homes in Laramie, Wyoming and Wichita, Kansas.
After he received his Criminal Justice degree, he worked at the El Dorado Correctional Facility, until his health forced him to retire.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an older brother Paul and a nephew Jason. He is survived by his wife, Vickie (Brammer) Edwards whom he married on October 7, 1993. He is also survived by an older brother Scott Edwards and a younger sister Tena Stephens, both of Benkelman. He has two nephews Aaron Edwards of Peralta, NM, Joshua Stephens of Lincoln, NE, and two nieces Emily Schoech of Omaha, NE and Alyson Stephens of Minneapolis, MN. He has great nieces, nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held in Prairie Home Cemetery next to his wife’s family.
