In Loving Memory of Martha (Beth) Elizabeth Neuer
Beth Neuer - beloved mother, grandmother, artist, and friend passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024, at Brewster Place in Topeka, KS at the age of 87. She valiantly battled Parkinson's Disease, leaving behind a legacy of artistry, love, and cherished memories.
Beth was born on November 1, 1936, in Raytown, Missouri, to Harold and Gertrude Lee.
Beth graduated from Raytown High School and after raising her children she attended Washburn University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. As a local and regional artist, she co-founded the Collective Art Gallery in Topeka, leaving a memorable mark on the art community.
Her life was graced with a loving family and many meaningful friendships, each contributing to the rich tapestry of her life. On July 30, 1955, Beth married Frederick William (Bill) Neuer at St Francis Xavier Church, Kansas City, MO. and was married 34 years until his death in 1989. Later, in the Fall of 1996, she married Thomas Book at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka, KS.
Beth’s interests were many, she used her green thumb volunteering at Ted Ensley Gardens and was a member of the choir at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Camping, games, cooking, and her passion for the arts and love of color filled her days. Her family and pets were her greatest joys, surrounding her with warmth and love.
Beth is preceded in death by her husband Bill Neuer, her beloved son Greg Neuer and second husband Thomas Book and is survived by her children: Mark Neuer (Kay), Marci James (Michael), Phillip Neuer (Imelda), and Jim Neuer (Melissa). Grandchildren: Elise Bargas (Jesse), Lauren Neuer (Gary Albano), Meridith Neuer (Alex Kincaid), Rhett Neuer, Austin Fehn (Brittanie), Evan James, Phillip Neuer Jr, CJ Neuer, Garrett Neuer (Rachel), Grant Neuer (Cassandra), Marissa Neuer. Additionally, she is survived by six great-grandchildren and her brother Richard Lee.
Beth’s vibrant spirit will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the colors she so passionately brought to life on canvas.
The family will receive friends from 5:30pm to 7:30pm Friday, February 9 with a parish rosary prayed at 6:30pm at Brennan Mathena Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00am Saturday, February 10, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Committal services will be private at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
