Martha Mendoza Cawthon, 78, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away February 4, 2019 at The University of Kansas St. Francis Campus. Martha was born on October 8, 1940 in Springfield, Missouri. Daughter of Otis and Edna Kleier Young.
Martha enjoyed going the the casino and attending her grandchildrens sporting events any chance she could. She loved when her out of town family would come and stay with her because she would cook for them. Everyone always wanted her to make her special enchiladas and mexican food.
Martha is preceded in death by both of her parents. Her first husband Arthur Mendoza and her second husband, Gary Cawthon.
She is survived by her son Kenny (Lisa) Mendoza of Topeka; two daughters, Rosie Mendoza of Topeka and Arlene Mendoza-Davin of Topeka; her step son Garrett Cawthon of Louisville, KY; brothers, Jackie Young of Gardner, KS, Steve Young of Wichita, KS, and Tommy Young of Denver, CO; Sisters, Sharon Kay Farmer of Boliver, MO, Dorothy Latham of Springfield, MO, Judy Smith of Buffalo, MO, Karen Sue Young of Springfield, MO, and Retha Griffitt of Independence, MO; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Brennan Mathena Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to Midland Hospice or to LULAC Senior Center and sent in the care of Brennan Mathena Funeral Home. 800 SW Sixth Ave, Topeka, KS 66603.
