Mary Lou Vossen age 90, died Monday February 1, 2021 at the Runk & Pratt Assisted Living Facility in Forest, Virginia. She was born on August 24th, 1930 in Elkton, South Dakota to Thomas Emmett and Pearl Etta Walsh. She was educated at Elkton High School and was the Salutatorian of her Graduating Class. She married Robert Leonard Vossen of Watkins, Minnesota on September 9, 1950. Bob and Mary Lou lived on his family farm and moved to Washington, DC in 1952 to begin his career with the US Department of Agriculture. They were married for 56 years and during their married life they lived in Watkins, Minnesota; Washington, DC; East Lansing, Michigan; Columbus, Ohio; Fargo, North Dakota; Topeka, Kansas; and Indiana, Pennsylvania. Bob preceded her in death on July 29th, 2006. Mary Lou enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, baking, sewing, and dancing. She was an avid reader and a book collector. During her life she was a seamstress, had an upholstery business, was an antique dealer, and a home maker. Mary Lou and Bob were members of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and were founding members of Christ the King Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her Husband: Robert L. Vossen; Parents: Thomas and Pearl Walsh; Sisters: Meryl Martinson, Francis Klosterman, Florence Pinkston, Kathryn Thieme, Maxine Hempel, Verna Binger, Betty Thelen, and Helen Myers; Nephew: Dennis Walsh; and Children: James Vossen, Amy Vossen, and Marsha Vossen. Mary Lou is survived by 5 Children: Maureen Biggar, Paul Vossen, Patrice Harley, Laura Vossen-Weyant, and Brian Vossen; 16 Grandchildren: Robert Biggar, Tony Biggar, Heather Edwards, Lisa Price, Theresa Hagey, Mary Johnson, Juliana Bibas, Kari Withers, Beth Vossen, Ben Harley, Katie Harley, Hannah Harley, Adam Al Habashi, Hallie Parker, Lauren Vossen, and Robert I. Vossen; and 29 Great Grandchildren. The Visitation will be held on Saturday February 6th, 2021 at Brennan-Mathena funeral home in Topeka, Kansas at 10:00am. Following the Visitation there will be a Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church and the burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
