Mary V. Yannone, 99, 6 days from turning 100, passed away on January 7, 2021 at McCrite Plaza Nursing Home.
She was born in Topeka, on January 13, 1921 the daughter of William and Maude (Eaton) Simmons.
Mary worked as an Administrative Assistant for Santa Fe Railway Company and retired from the State of Kansas in the Department of Revenue.
She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a former member of Moose Lodge #555 where she enjoyed dancing with her husband. She also enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary was married to Nicholas A. Yannone on May 5, 1945 at the Assumption Catholic Church. He predeceased her on October 11, 1998. She is also survived by three daughters, M. Barbara Yannone (Gregory Betzen) of Olathe, KS, Nancy Pomeroy (Clay Scott) of Topeka, Deborah (Dean) Conner of Topeka, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one step granddaughter, two step great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a sister, Annabelle (Miller) Sweeney and a brother, William B. Simmons.
Mary will lie in state at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 13th, from 9:00 until 9:30 a.m. with a Parish Rosary prayed at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Elara Caring Hospice or St. Jude’s Hospital and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
