Surrounded by his loving family, Miguel “Mike” Trujillo, 86, of Topeka, KS passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2021.
He was born May 8, 1935 in Winifred, KS the son of Gregorio and Feliza (Acosta) Trujillo. He was a 1953 graduate of Frankfurt High School. “Big Mike” as he was known, worked as a Carman at Santa Fe Railroad for 44 years, working as a welder and mechanic, retiring in 1997. Mike was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #534.
He married Anita Gonzales on November 4, 1967 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Richard (MeLissa) Trujillo of Olathe; a daughter, Catherine (Patrick) Becker of Lenexa; a sister, Rose Padilla of Topeka along with four grandchildren, Carson Becker, Devin Becker, Dominic Trujillo and Isabella Trujillo and many nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Antonia Gonzales, John Trujillo, Josephine Sevederra, Julia Perez, Maurice Trujillo, and Irene Negrete.
Mike enjoyed the simple things in life. His most treasured time was with his four grandchildren. Watching them play sports, attending school activities and family celebrations brought such a bright beautiful smile to his face. He was lucky enough to see his favorite sports teams win a World Series (KC Royals), Super Bowl (KC Chiefs) and Final 4 Championship (KU Jayhawks). Mike also loved being outside and took great pride in his garden of tomato plants, onions, peppers and red roses. Even when there was just two of them at home, he purposely grew more than they needed so he could share with others. Mike was such a giving man and we will miss him dearly. We take comfort that he is now at peace reunited with his heavenly family and watching over us from above.
Mike will lie in state beginning at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.brennanmathenafh.com.
