Murl F. Elkins

Murl F. Elkins, age 92, of Topeka, and formerly of Shawnee, KS, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

He was born the son of William W. and Eugene (Springfield) Elkins on February 27, 1933, in Miller, MO. He was the youngest of eight children.

Murl met, fell in love, and married Mary Louise Kirwan in 1958. She passed away on June 16, 2018. They were side by side for 60 years.

Murl’s working career spanned over many years, working as an auto mechanic and business owner, both in the Kansas City area as well as in Redondo Beach, California. He is remembered for his strong work ethic and attention to detail. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, playing pool and spending time with friends and family. Murl loved to travel with his wife and enjoyed activities with his family. He never passed up a good party and often was the last to leave.

Survivors include his daughter, Nicole Huey and her husband Cory; and two beloved grandchildren, Grayson and Adalynne Huey.

Murl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou; and seven siblings.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 2-3:00 P.M., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 P.M., at Kansas City Funeral Directors, 4880 Shawnee Dr., Kansas City, KS 66106. Immediately following the services, everyone is welcome for a reception at the American Legion Post 327, 6521 Nieman Road, Shawnee, KS 66203.
