Nancy Gail (West) Lister, age 69, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital.
She was born the daughter of Senator Thomas “Tom” James and Delores J. (Hunt) West on October 16, 1952, in Topeka, KS.
Nancy graduated from Highland Park High School and attended Washburn University, receiving her bachelor's degree. She then attended Baker University and received her MBA. She was employed by Southwestern Bell and after 30 plus years, Nancy retired as a Director of Communications.
On February 14, 1998, she married Gary S. Lister at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Together, they enjoyed attending car shows, being members of the Viper Club of Kansas City and being active in the church. Gary passed away on March 9, 2021, after 23 years of marriage. Nancy was a Cantor, Lay Minister, RCIA sponsor and helped with the parish guild. In her spare time, she enjoyed catering, decorating and baking cakes for weddings. Nancy will be remembered for her strong faith and dedication to her family.
Survivors include her son, Justin M. West and his wife Elizabeth of Atchison, KS; three stepchildren, Rodney Lister and his wife Kim, Scott Lister, and Tammy Murphy; her five grandchildren from her son, Felicity, Kepha, Samuel, Sophia and Josephine; an additional seven bonus grandchildren, Jeremy, Richard, Dustin, Jessica, Jarrett, Clarissa, and Brooke; as well as five great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her two sisters, Suzanne (West) Nelson and her husband Rodney, Janet (West) Mitchell; and one brother, Thomas West, Jr., and his wife Kim.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; granddaughter, Jaymie; and stepson in law, Matthew.
She will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, after 2:00 P.M., on Monday, July 25, 2022, with the family being present from 5:00-7:00 P.M., and a parish rosary will take place at 7:00 P.M.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
Memorial contributions can be made in Nancy's memory to St. Matthew Catholic Church and/or the Topeka Salvation Army. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
