Octaviano “Tavy” Vargas, 83, of Topeka, passed away on January 3, 2021 at his home.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on October 1, 1937 the son of Miguel and Luisa (Valdivia) Vargas.
He worked as a Dental Technician for the Heumann Dental Labs and retired in 2002. Tavy loved all types of music especially Latin and Jazz. He was an avid K-State sports fan, and Phillies Baseball fan, and played on and managed several fastpitch softball teams.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Tavy married Isabel Mendoza on August 20, 1960 in Lawrence, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Anthony (Martha) Vargas of Topeka, Adrian Vargas of Lawrence, Andrew Vargas of Topeka, Aaron (Pam) Vargas of Topeka, Raquel Garcia (Mike Munoz) of Topeka, nine grandchildren; Eric, Skyler, Valencia, Kyla, Reina, Damien, Bri, A.J., and Santana, a brother, Pio (Adela) Vargas and a sister Frances Chavez all of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Albert Espinoza and Manuel Espinoza and a sister, Maria Hazel Martinez and a granddaughter, Isabel Angelina Vargas Garcia.
Tavy will lie in state at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed by the Legion of Mary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
