Olga L. Esquivel, age 77, Topeka, KS, passed away with her family by her side on September 29, 2023.
She was born the daughter of the late Raymond G. and Alejandra “Alexandria” G. (Gomez) Alcala on July 13, 1946, in Topeka, KS. Olga was a Hayden graduate with the class of 1964. Most of her working career was with Santa Fe Railroad as a Data Entry Clerk. Her other full-time job was raising her son and taking care of both her parents as a caregiver for 25 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. In the late 70’s and early 80’s she was on the Queen Committee and volunteered with Fiesta Mexicana. Olga was an active member with the Sante Fe Women’s Club and Adoration with the church.
In her spare time, Olga excelled at creating and working with ceramics. A passion she held throughout her life and many family members and friends have her ceramic artwork. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she would decorate the home with many ornaments, trees and she had a wide range of hallmark collectibles. Never one to sit still, Olga loved to travel, and she loved to shop. In her later years, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the greatest joy.
Survivors include her loving son, Justin Esquivel and his wife Angela; three grandchildren, Keifer Cook and his wife Jeanne, Jessica Esquivel and Damian Esquivel; and three great-grandchildren, Parker, Elena and Evan. Other survivors include three brothers, David R. Alcala and his wife Anna, Gabriel J. Alcala, Ramon Alcala; two sisters, Alicia Rangel and her husband John, Graciela Hernandez and her husband Carlos. Olga leaves behind a loving extended family that includes many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She will lie in state from 4-8:00 P.M., followed by a rosary at 6:00 P.M., led by the Third Order of Augustinians at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
Memorial contributions can be made in Olga’s memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
