Paul E. Warfied, Sr., age 72, died on Saturday, April 20, 2024, surrounded by his family at home in Topeka.
He was born the son of Wesley Warfield, Jr., and Willie Mae (Lockett) Warfield on April 27, 1951, in Pine Bluff, AR. Paul graduated from Merrill High School and continued his education at Washburn University, receiving his master’s degree in Correctional Administration. He retired from the State of Kansas as a Unit Team Manager. Paul was also an adjunct professor at Washburn University as well as Allen County Community College at the Burlingame location.
Paul served his country with pride in the United States Army during Vietnam and was honorably discharged after ten years of service, obtaining the rank as a Staff Sergeant.
He married Lenona “Jean” Warfield for nine years. She preceded him in death. He married Freda Troutman and together, they shared 44 years of marriage. Paul and Freda were past members at St. Matthew Catholic Church where they both served as eucharistic ministers, lectors, religious education and helping with the fall bizarre. Currently, Paul and Freda are members of Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church. Paul volunteered at the VA, ensuring that all veterans had an opportunity to attend mass at the VA. He will be remembered for his strong faith, family values and selfless acts of kindness.
Paul was always proud of his seven children; Wanda (Kenneth) Foreman of Topeka, Stephanie Warfield of Topeka, Paul, Jr., (Lisa) Warfield of Chattanooga, TN, Melissa (Raymond) Robinson of Lawrence, KS, Anna (Joseph) Serwadda of Topeka, Sadie (Matthew) Hanson of Okinawa, Japan, and Mary (Bryan) Teel of Topeka.
He loved to banter with this seven brothers; Thomas (Toya) Warfield, Sr., of St. Paul, MN, Joe Larry Warfield (deceased), William (Mildred) Warfield, Sr., of Pine Bluff, AR, Bob (Denise) Warfield of Eagan, MN, Wesley Warfield, III of Dallas, TX, and Philip (Lisa) Warfield, Sr., of Little Rock, AR. Other survivors include his precious 11 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
He will lie in state with visitation being held from 5-7:00 P.M., on Thursday, April 25, 2024, with a rosary being held at 6:30 P.M., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial with Ft. Riley military honors will take place at 2:00 P.M., Friday at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, KS 66503.
Memorial contributions can be made in Paul's memory to Mary's Choices, 551 NW Broad St., Topeka, KS 66608. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
