Peggy J. Harrison, age 98, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
She was born the daughter of Edward Aaron and Dorothy L. (Butler) Thompson on March 1, 1923, in Salina, Kansas.
Peggy attended the Dunbar School in Salina. After her high school completion, she received her associate degree at Brown Mackie College.
On February 12, 1977, she married Royer D. Harrison in Salina, KS. That same year, she and Royer moved to Topeka, KS. Peggy worked as an interviewer in the employment office for the State of Kansas. After 17 years, she retired on March 17, 1987.
Peggy was an active member of the University United Methodist Church in Topeka. She was a member of the Black Women’s Network and the Dunbar School Alumni Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, taking care of plants, sewing and spending time with her family. Even in her later years, Peggy stayed active with Facebook and using her iPad.
Survivors include her son, Wayne D. Rodgers and his wife Susan of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Jennifer Gordon and her husband Loring of Topeka, KS; and son, Rick T. Rodgers; eight grandchildren, Mari, Sarah, Hewitt, Sandy, Ibadat, Amina, Ashia and Jaison; ten great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Taliah, Tyrah, Miah, Nova, Djuna, Evelynn, Arya, Lavender, and Da’Torian; as well as one great-great-grandchild, Aspyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Royer D. Harrison in 1994.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 P.M., on Friday, February 25, 2022, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 P.M., both at the University United Methodist Church, 1621 SW College Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
Graveside services will take place at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 26, at the Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina, KS.
Memorial contributions can be made in Peggy's loving memory to Dunbar School Alumni Association, Inc. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
