Rachel (Raquel) Tetuan Chavez, 88, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, December 3, 2018 at home with her family by her side in Topeka, KS. She joins her loving husband of 60 years Trinidad (Trini) Chavez who preceded her in death in 2010. She was born August 13, 1930, in Topeka, Kansas to Jose L. and Eugenia Tetuan, and was the eldest of seven brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of Topeka High School.
She was a life-long homemaker turned entrepreneur as founder and co-owner of Chavez Restoration & Cleaning in Topeka, Kansas. She established the company, along with her husband Trinidad in 1967. She, along with her husband, sons, daughters, and relatives have built Chavez Restoration & Cleaning into one of the leading cleaning and disaster restoration carpet & upholstery cleaning businesses in the Midwest. Rachel will always be remembered for her devotion to her children and her husband. She was an unwavering supporter of community and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, the Topeka Fiesta and other organizations and causes. She was a PTO member of Lafayette School. She was known for her Mexican cooking with specialty dishes of enchiladas and tostadas.
Surviving sons include Richard (Christy) Chavez of Topeka; Daniel (Carla) Chavez of Lawrence; David (Sarah) Chavez of Olathe; and Luis Chavez of Topeka. Surviving daughters include Linda Rivera and Rachel Martinez both of Topeka.
Rachel is preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Joe, Jr, and Jesse Tetuan of Topeka. Survivors include brother John of Topeka, and two sisters, Eva Bermudez and Isabel Adams all of Topeka. Rachel has 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS. 66603.
