Rachel Escobar, age 81, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital.
She was born the daughter of Esther (Marquez) Corona and raised by her grandfather, Marcus on January 29, 1939 in Cement City, MO.
Rachel was a 1957 high school graduate from Topeka High School. On August 4, 1962, she married John H. Escobar at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Together, they shared 58 years of marriage.
She had been a file clerk for many years with an area hospital. She enjoyed cooking, baking and cheering on her beloved KU Jayhawks. Rachel was a cancer survivor and she was active with area cancer walks and events. Her greatest joy was being with her family and being a mother to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her loving husband of the home, John H. Escobar; two sons, Christopher Escobar and the mother of his children, Theresa, son, Patrick Escobar; brother, Bobby Nicholson and his wife Diane; two sisters, Kathy Hernandez, Julie Wilkerson and her husband Andy; four grandchildren, Adrianne Kulick, Carrisa Escobar, Gabriella Escobar and Katrina Escobar; two great-grandchildren, Micah and Marcus as well as a loving extended family.
Rachel will lie in state at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 9:30-10:30 A.M., followed by a Parish Rosary at 10:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka. Please adhere to the current public gathering guidelines with masks and social distancing at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, KS 66604. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
