Raymond John Dashnaw, 67, of Topeka, KS, died Sunday, January 2, 2022, at his home. He was born October 2, 1954, in Topeka, the son of Raymond Vincent and Rosemary (Weigel) Dashnaw. Ray attended St. Matthew Grade School, was a 1972 graduate of Hayden High School and received an Associates Degree from Washburn University. He served in the US Army Reserve for over 30 years retiring as MSgt. Ray worked in various capacities for the State of Kansas recently retiring as a Computer Programmer for USD #501. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #13012 and James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Ray enjoyed bowling in the yearly Knights of Columbus bowling tournament and volunteered at channel 11. He married Karen Joy Blankenship on July 14, 1979, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Lesley (Justin) Gutierrez of Topeka, Courtney (Randall) Herrera of Waco, TX, a brother, Daniel Dashnaw of Leavenworth, KS. Five grandchildren, Christine Gutierrez, Max Gutierrez, Justin Gutierrez II, and twins, Grayson Herrera and Malcolm Herrera, along with his father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Joy Blankenship also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Rosemary Dashnaw and a brother Gary Dashnaw. A 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary and Chalice Ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2022, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Following these services, the family will receive friends until 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2022, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial will follow with military honors at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made in Ray’s memory to St. Matthew Catholic Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
