Raymond Valdez, 96, of Topeka, KS, died Friday, January 28, 2022, in the comfort of his home with his family by his side. He was born March 27, 1925, in Trinidad, CO, the son of Jose and Felicita “Lucero” Valdez. Raymond served as a Medic in the US Army during World War II and worked in Housekeeping at the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Administration Hospital retiring in 1980. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. In Raymond’s spare time he enjoyed Oil Painting, hunting, fishing camping and making trips back home to Colorado. He married Alice Toledo on April 16, 1952, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include five children, Rita Hinterweger, Gloria (Michael) Adame, Veronica (Kimo) Plakio, Angela (Bill) Dougan, and Ronald (Jacquline) Valdez. Two brothers, Lee Valdez and Victor Valdez along with 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Felicita Valdez, a brother, Fred and three sisters, Rosie, Susie and Sarah . Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. Following the rosary funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private graveside services with military honors will be at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
