Raymundo “Ray” Valdivia Sr, 80, of Topeka, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023, at Stormont Vail Health.
He was born August 31,1942, in Topeka, Kansas, to Rito Valdivia Sr. and Leonila (Mata) Valdivia.
Raymundo enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, cooking, watching westerns, telling stories about his childhood, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, and playing with his daughter’s dog “Coco”. He was also a Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and KU fan.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Augustinian 3rd Order.
Raymundo worked for Dupont/Flexel and was a caregiver for Sunflower Support.
He married Geraldine Diane “Gerry” Davis, on January 21, 1989, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Topeka, Kansas. She passed away January 17, 2007.
Survivors include his children, Raymundo Valdivia Jr. and wife Jennifer of Topeka, Mark Valdivia of Topeka, Jana Vargas and husband Papo of Topeka; grandchildren, PJ Vargas, Loreyna Vargas, Ryan Higginbotham, Jaymee Higginbotham, Lydia Borjon; siblings, Angel Valdivia and wife Mary, Susan Perez and husband John, Monica Matchett and husband David, Mary Ann Tejada and husband Carlos; many nieces and nephews; and his ex-wife, Priscilla Gutierrez.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sibilings, Herlinda Holmes, Angelina Valdivia, Victoria Campos, Maria Hazel Rocha, Guadalupe Chavez, Frances Hernandez, Lucy Martin, Rito “Slim” Valdivia Jr., Carmen Torres, and Tony Valdivia.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 16, from 5:00-6:30pm at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30am Friday, March 17, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Grantville Cemetery.
