Regis Edward Campbell, Jr.

Regis Edward Campbell, Jr., 79, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Midland Hospice House, just minutes before his 80th birthday.

He was born August 23, 1943, in Star Junction, Pennsylvania, to Regis Edward Campbell and Catharine Veronica (Farrell) Campbell.

In 1961 Regis graduated from Frazier High School in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania.

After high school Regis enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He later served in the Vietnam War, and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Regis worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for 34 years, and retired June 1, 2000.

Regis was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and serving as a scout leader.  After retirement he became quite the baker, and loved making cookies for friends, family, and church functions.

He married Sandra Corrine Martin on July 12, 1963, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. 

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Campbell of Topeka; three daughters, Catherine Talbot of Weatherford, Texas, Heather Newsome (Daryle) of Novinger, Missouri, Ashley Putthoff (Darin) of Topeka, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Mary Campbell of Topeka; sister, Marlene Solimeo, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Tabitha Drake (EJ), Callen Deitz (Brett), Kyle Pearson (Janette), Amarion Harding, Campbell Talbot (Ngoza), Levi Talbot, Isaac Talbot, Sophia Talbot, Gunner Talbot, Emily Young, Abbey Campbell, Liam Newsome, Leilani Newsome, Kaylee Putthoff, Zander Putthoff, and Trace Putthoff; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debbie A. Harding; son, Regis E. Campbell III; sister, Mary Catharine Boerner; and brother, Patrick Campbell. 

The family will receive friends Monday, August 28 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.  A 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice Ceremony will begin at 7:00pm and a rosary will be prayed at 7:30pm.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am, Tuesday, August 29 at St. Matthew Catholic Church.  Interment will follow with military honors at Westlawn Memorial Gardens in the veteran’s section.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Regis’ name to Midland Hospice, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS 66603.
