Robert Capes Burnett

Robert Capes Burnett, 61, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on January 25, 2025.

He was born September 11, 1963, in Topeka, Kansas, to Capes “Cappy” Burnett and Ramona (Mendoza) Burnett. Robert graduated from Topeka High School, attended Washburn University, The University of Kansas, and St. Louis University.

Robert traveled the world, and lived in New York City, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Argentina. He was also a very spiritual person and practiced many religions. He was humorous and sarcastic by nature and had a thirst for knowledge. Robert was fluent in several languages, loved cats, and enjoyed cooking.

He worked as a paralegal and journalist, wherever he lived.

Survivors include his parents, Capes “Cappy” and Ramona Burnett, of Topeka, Kansas; sister, Maria Ganger and husband Mike of Carbondale, Kansas; niece, Adriana Renteria of Tampa, Florida; nephew, Jack Ward of Tampa, Florida; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be 2:00pm, Friday, April 25, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS 66603.
