Robert "Rob" S. Raines

September 8, 1982 — September 20, 2024

Topeka

Robert “Rob” S. Raines, age 42, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Topeka.

He was born the son of Ronald R. and Kimberley A. (Phillips) Raines on September 8, 1982, in Topeka. Rob attended Assumption Grade School and graduated from Hayden High School in 2001. From an early age, Rob excelled in academics and sports. His natural talent led him to accomplish great achievements in football but especially baseball. After high school, Rob received a scholarship to play baseball at Coffeyville Community College where he had an exceptional career as a Red Raven on the field as well as being an Academic All American in 2003. He furthered his education and his love for baseball at Washburn University. Rob had raw talent when it came to sports and was a beacon as a team leader.

Growing up with three brothers and a younger sister, Rob was no stranger to pranks, mischief but always on an adventure. He had a gifted ability to learn on the fly. After being given a guitar in the 7th grade by Sister Corita, Rob was able to play the guitar without taking any guitar lessons. As a Head Adjuster at Southwest Publishing, he was often looked upon and tasked with troubleshooting operations.

Rob was the protector of his family. Always having the back of his family and friends. He was a man of faith and endearment. We are sad for the loss of Rob, but we take comfort with the memories he made and the love he shared on this earth. May he find peace and comfort in the arms of the Lord.

Survivors include his beloved parents, Ron and Kim Raines; loyal brothers, Jim Raines (Amy), Justin Raines (Katie), and Thomas Raines; his cherished sister, Roni Raines (Chandler Bloomer); nieces and nephews, Kaden & Carter Raines, Wyatt, Xander, Rhett, and Alena Raines; and his maternal grandfather, Chet Phillips. Other survivors include his paternal aunt and uncle, Linda Vigneron, Rick Raines; maternal uncle, Keith Phillips (Wendy); maternal great aunts, Teresa (Bobby) Tinoco, Carol (Bill) Hodges, and Roseann Schroeder. Rob leaves behind a loving extended family that includes his cousins, James “JJ” McDaniel, David McDaniel, Chris McDaniel and his closest buddy, Matthew “Bucky” Foster, Dana Duffy, Amanda Duffy, Andrew Duffy, Maurice Vigneron, John Vigneron, Wesley Vigneron, Rachel Briggs, Hannah Garren Pleima, Jessie Phillips, and Kaitlyn Levene.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James “JL” Raines II and Velma Marie (Hudson) Raines as well as his maternal grandmother, Shirley Phillips and maternal great-grandmother, Cecelia Schroeder.
