Roger Eugene "Gene" Olson

Roger Eugene “Gene” Olson, 88, of Topeka, passed away on August 10, 2022, at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

He was born in Wisconsin on October 11, 1933, the son of Carl and Armella (Benke) Olson.

Gene served his country in the United States Air Force.  He retired as a Captain with the Topeka Fire Department where his last assignment was at Station #9.  After his retirement he enjoyed going for coffee at the fire station and visiting with his friends.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cars and especially playing golf. 

Gene married Dorma J. (Wangerin) on May 1, 1959, in Topeka, Kansas.  She survives of the home.  He is also survived by a daughter Cindy (Ken) Bruns, two grandsons, Michael Bruns and Kyle (Kaylyn) Bruns and their children Kendall and Hudson.  He has four siblings that survive him, Don (Sherry) Olson, Beverly Rago, Eileen Shadler, and Bill (Darlene) Olson.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his honor to IAFF Local #83 Honor Guard to assist families of fallen fire personnel and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6^th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
